Description

JOB GOAL: 

Provide mechanical repairs to all School District vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner and maintain all equipment and the workplace in a clean and safe environment. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Have, or be able to obtain, a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger, “S”, and brake endorsements.
  3. Be able to pass a School Bus Drivers physical examination, per Federal and State Department of Transportation Laws, including substance abuse screening.
  4. Must pass fingerprint and background clearance.
  5. Must have an excellent attendance record.
  6. Mechanical experience preferred.
  1. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., be able to exert 25 –30 lbs. of force frequently, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  2. Ability to walk, reach, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, and to sit for long periods of time.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide assistance to District mechanic staff in the maintenance of all District vehicles.
  2. Safeguard all tools, parts, and supplies.
  3. Learn all aspects of mechanical repair services for all vehicles.
  4. Prepare and make available all requisitioned vehicles.
  5. Serve as substitute bus driver.
  6. Operate all vehicles in a safe, efficient manner and transport only authorized students and personnel.
  7. Communicate with Director, drivers, and District staff in a professional manner.
  8. Cooperate with supervisory staff in basic checkout and emergency procedures.
  9. Provide departmental reports as requested.
  10. Complete written reports and discuss with Director all accidents, vehicle damage, and student injury situations.
  11. Be willing to work split shifts, as determined by the Director of Transportation.
  12. Attend mandatory staff meetings.
  13. Maintain confidentiality.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear and smell. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands and fingers; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit; climb or balance; and bend, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee may be required to move and control an adult-sized wheelchair. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally team lift and/or move a student with disabilities.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions and extreme cold; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

 

 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  12 MONTH; Vacation Days: per policy GDD.  General Leave Days: per policy GDCA

COMPENSATION: Classified Salary Schedule, Salary Grade Level: Letter R

BENEFITS:  As per District policy

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation and/or Transportation Supervisor

EVALUATION: Initial evaluation to be completed no later than ninety (90) days after first day of work; thereafter, annually by supervisor.

HOURS: 40 hours per week; 6:00am-5:00pm (split shift)

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
