Description

JOB GOAL: 

To provide mechanical repairs to all School District vehicles and equipment in a clean and safe and environment and to maintain an excellent working relationship with all District staff 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Must have, or be able to obtain, a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger, “S”, and Air Brake endorsements
  3. Must be able to pass a School Bus Drivers Physical Examination, per Federal and State Department of Transportation laws, including substance abuse screening
  4. Must be able to pass the State of Arizona Physical Performance Test for School Bus Drivers
  5. Must be able to pass a Fingerprint and background clearance
  6. Must have an excellent attendance record
  7. Mechanical experience necessary in diesel and gasoline engines and hydraulic and air brake systems; ASE Certificates preferred
  8. Experience in vehicle air conditioning systems preferred

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

  1. Provide all aspects of mechanical repair services for all District vehicles
  2. Safeguard all tools, parts, and supplies, and to keep the workplace clean and organized
  3. Prepare and make available all requisitioned vehicles
  4. Serve as a substitute bus driver as determined by the Director of Transportation or designee
  5. Operate all vehicles in a safe, efficient manner and transport only authorized students and personnel
  6. Communicate with Director, vehicle drivers, and District staff in a positive, professional manner
  7. Cooperate with supervisory staff in basic checkout and emergency procedures
  8. Provide departmental reports as requested
  9. Complete written reports and discuss with Director all accidents, vehicle damage, and student injury situations
  10. Willing to work split shifts, if necessary, as determined by the Director of Transportation
  11. Attend mandatory department meetings
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation and/or his/her designee
  13. Maintain confidentiality

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear and smell. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands and fingers; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit; climb or balance; and bend, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee may be required to move and control an adult-sized wheelchair. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift 20-30 Pounds.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions and extreme cold; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

 

 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  12 MONTH; Vacation Days: per policy GDD.  General Leave Days: per policy GDCA

COMPENSATION: Classified Salary Schedule, Salary Grade Level: Letter W

BENEFITS:  As per District policy

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation and/or Transportation Supervisor

EVALUATION: Initial evaluation to be completed no later than ninety (90) days after first day of work; thereafter, annually by supervisor.

HOURS: 40 hours per week

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
