JOB GOAL:

To learn how to operate District school buses to provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school and special events in a positive and effective manner

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent
  2. Have, or be able to obtain, a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger, “S”, and Air Brake endorsements
  3. Must be able to pass a School Bus Drivers physical examination, per Federal and State Department of Transportation laws, including substance abuse screening
  4. Must be able to pass the State of Arizona Physical Performance Test for School Bus Drivers
  5. Must be able to pass fingerprint and background clearance
  6. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., be able to exert 25 –30 lbs. of force frequently, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  7. Ability to walk, reach, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, and to sit for long periods of time.
  8. Must have an excellent attendance record

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

  1. Become familiar with all traffic laws, safety regulations, and District policies as they pertain to school bus driving
  2. Comply with all Minimum Standards for School Bus Drivers
  3. Learn how to operate all vehicles in a safe, efficient manner, and transport only authorized students and personnel
  4. Communicate with Director, vehicle drivers, and District staff, in a professional manner
  5. Learn how to drive all bus routes and/or assignments, as designed on schedule and discharge students only at authorized bus stops
  6. Maintain order on the bus and report student discipline problems to the Director
  7. Learn basic checkout and emergency procedures
  8. Learn to provide departmental reports as requested
  9. Learn how to complete written reports and discuss with Director all accidents, vehicle damage, and student injury situations
  10. Learn how to report and request, in writing, all necessary vehicle maintenance and repairs
  11. Learn how to keep the interior of the assigned bus in clean condition
  12. Attend mandatory department meetings
  13. Learn how to operate a mechanical wheelchair lift and secure wheelchairs, if the bus is so equipped
  14. Learn how to perform mandatory pre-trip and post-trip inspections properly
  15. Maintain confidentiality
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director and/or his/her designee

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear and smell. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands and fingers; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit; climb or balance; and bend, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee may be required to move and control an adult-sized wheelchair. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally team lift and/or move a student with disabilities.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions and extreme cold; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  180 days, Vacation and personnel leave days per District Policy GDD and GDCA

COMPENSATION:  Classified Salary Schedule, Salary Grade Level: Letter F Once trained, salary moves to Letter M

EVALUATION:  Initial evaluation to be completed no later than ninety (90) days after first day of work; thereafter, annually by supervisor.

REPORTS TO:  Director of Transportation and/or his/her designee

BENEFITS:  As per District policy
